Marketplace (ACA) plans for Houston households
Texas uses HealthCare.gov, the federal Health Insurance Marketplace. Our team helps you:
- Compare plans by monthly premium, deductible, and out-of-pocket maximum
- Check whether your doctors and prescriptions fit the plans you’re considering
- Estimate your premium tax credit when you apply
- Finish enrollment and make your first payment so coverage starts
Good to know: there’s no income requirement to buy a Marketplace plan. Your income affects how much help you get with the premium, not whether you can enroll.
Marketplace open enrollment runs November 1 through January 15. Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1.

Houston health insurance FAQ
Q: I’m self-employed in Houston. Can I get a Marketplace plan?
A: Yes. Self-employed people and gig workers often buy coverage through HealthCare.gov. You’ll estimate your household income for the year, and that estimate sets how much help you get with the premium.
Q: When does Marketplace open enrollment start?
A: November 1. It runs through January 15. Outside those dates, you generally need a qualifying life event (such as losing job-based coverage, moving, or having a baby) to enroll.
Q: Can you help my kids apply for CHIP or Medicaid?
A: Our team can help you apply. Medicaid and CHIP applications can be filed any time of year.
